Are you dreaming of swapping the rush of urban life for the peace and purity of the Himalayas? Then Sankri, one of Uttarakhand’s most charming hidden escapes, deserves a spot on your travel list. Nestled at around 1,950 metres (6,200 feet), this quaint village offers breathtaking views, serene forests, towering peaks and a warm mountain culture that instantly makes travellers feel at home. It’s the ideal retreat for anyone longing to reconnect with nature.
Recently, Dhruv and Ashim Shatsang Bogra, a husband-wife duo currently cycling 3,000 km across the Indian Himalayas, paused their journey to spend time in Sankri. They later shared their memorable experience on Instagram, painting a vivid picture of the magic they found here.
In their words, Sankri is “a secluded Himalayan village at 6,500 feet, located just nine trekking kilometres from the famous Kedarkantha summit. Those last eight kilometres were the toughest; steep gradients and rugged roads made the ride slow and challenging. Positioned at the edge of Uttarkashi’s remote highlands, Sankri serves as the gateway to several iconic treks. The village felt like an invitation into nature’s untouched beauty and the grand Himalayan landscapes.”
During their stop, Dhruv and Ashim stayed at Meraki Art Café, a beautifully restored traditional home turned into a homestay by local entrepreneurs. They had hoped to continue cycling to Taluka, but unpredictable mountain weather prompted them to pause their adventure and return
